This page is to clarify our foreign Language Policy and provide a PLO Resource.

Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone is considered an individualized course. Homeroom teachers of online students are responsible for tracking second language PLO’s for students who are using Rosetta Stone. Teachers of individualized students are also responsible for tracking their students’ progress through Rosetta Stone. The Online Language Learning Center makes it very easy for us to track student progress. Just click on your student’s name and you will be able to view a summary of learning. This includes how many hours the student has spent and how many assignments have been completed. If you click on a Unit it will take you into a screen where you can view details about specific assignments the student has completed and see what score they received.

While Rosetta Stone is a very complete course in itself, it will still require active teaching to reach all of the PLO’s for a second language.

Here are the additional outcomes and recomended activities that will help you meet them:

Students who are using Rosetta Stone as preparation for a Provincial Exam at the grade 12 level will need supplementation.

For your information,

  • Texts and workbooks are supplemental to the Rosetta Stone program, they are not an integral part of the program and most of the languages do not have workbooks.
  • Level 1 includes 300 instructional hours, level 2 is 400 instructional hours.

Tracking Provincial Learning Outcomes

Because of the way the Ministry of Education has organized the PLO's in this subject area we are not able to post them within Encom. We have provided an Excel Spreadsheet for the various BC Languages for you to download. We have include a generic "Foreign Language.xls" for languages that are not covered within the Provisional Program but are offered by Rosetta Stone.
