Meeting Outcomes When Using Rosetta Stone Online

You may use this as a checklist:
Grade Eight:
- Ask for information, permission, and clarification
- Share information about activities and interests
- Participate in familiar activities (real or simulated) (i.e. shopping, restaurant)
- Classify events as past, present, or future
- Derive meaning in new language situations
Grade Nine:
- Ask for assistance and detailed information
- Share opinions and preferences, giving reasons
- Describe and exchange information related to activities, people, places, and things
- Arrange events in past, present, and future
- Participate in selected, meaningful, real-life situations
Acquiring Information, Experiencing Creative Works, and Understanding Cultural Influences –
Please complete the following each year :
- Practice obtaining information, appropriate to your interest and need, from various sources in the language you are studying, such as television or radio programs, magazines, business and job advertisements, recipes, restaurant menus, schedules, or Internet sites, books or videos/movies (with English subtitles), dictionaries. Keep a list of sources you’ve used to obtain information.
- Read about/View Art in the culture you are studying (library books, internet websites, videos); list three to five famous paintings you viewed (artist and name of painting) and your personal response to them (what you liked/disliked about the artist or his paintings, favourites)
- Listen to composers/musical artists (video, audio, online); list three to five of the famous recordings (musician and name of music piece) you listened to and your personal response to them (what you liked/disliked about the music, favourites)
- Unless directed otherwise, please answer all of the following questions pertinent to your grade level. You may write a paragraph or two or use charts/pictures/powerpoint/video to share your information:
Grade Eight:
- For Spanish students- only answer this : Compare and contrast characteristics of various Hispanic cultures; discuss activities and interests of young people in Hispanic communities.
- What are some elements/characteristics of this culture in Canada and the world?
- Share some of your family and community traditions.
- Additional question for French students : Identify and compare the activities and interests of young people in Francophone communities to your own.
Grade Nine:
- Distinguish similarities and differences between your own customs and those of the culture you are studying. (family life, leisure activities, expressions and behavior, etc)
- Identify ways in which this language and the English language have influenced each other.
- Additional question for French students : Identify and compare several Francophone cultures from around the world.
